Incorporated since November 30, 1976, the City is a "contract city." It has a small full-time staff and contracts for many of the services provided to its citizens.
With the San Gabriel Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop, La Cañada Flintridge represents the very best of California living. Although our city is only twenty minutes from downtown Los Angeles, LCF maintains a small-town atmosphere with a sense of shared family values that touches every resident. Tree-lined streets and the rolling lawns of spacious estates and colorful flowers surrounding beautiful homes set a standard of gracious living in this "glen between the hills."
A low-key lifestyle centered around children and community is central to the city's 20,318 residents. The City's public school system consistently ranks in the top five percent of California schools. Houses of worship and a variety of service organizations are an integral part of the community. Volunteers contribute more than 250,000 hours to civic causes each year.
The climate is perfect for the variety of beautiful camellias and the live-oak forest at Descanso Gardens, a 165-acre botanical garden known throughout the nation. Our city has about 300 sunny days per year and a mean, year-round temperature of 64 degrees, with an average rainfall of about 20 inches.
Census statistics show that executives and professionals comprise 54 percent of area employees, with other white-collar occupations adding another 32 percent. Approximately 80 percent of adult residents have attended college, with more than 50 percent being college graduates.
